Mission Estate 'Huchet' Premium Syrah 2019 750ml

The ultimate expression of winemaking at Mission, Huchet wines proudly honour Brother Cyprian Huchet. The son of a French vigneron from the Loire, he became New Zealand’s pioneering winemaker whilst working at Mission in 1871. Produced in very limited quantities and only from outstanding years. His inspiration is a legacy we continue.

The 2019 Huchet Syrah was the only New Zealand Syrah to win a masters medal in the 2022 Global Wine Masters Competition. The competition is judged blind by some of the finest palates in the world. This allows the preconceived notions based on the location of the wine to be deducted, and the importance focused purely on style.

TASTING NOTE:

It is complex and intense, showing rich black fruits plum and raspberry notes. An intriguing note only achieved in this vineyard partners with soft white spices, subtle cedar and sandalwood with hints of vanilla. Full bodied and robust with great power, depth of flavour and a long finish.

FOOD MATCH:

Aged Wagyu striploin with truffle butter, prime beef fillet, or slow-cooked venison backstrap. Decadent duck confit or slow-braised beef bourguignon pot pies. Strong, artisanal blue cheeses or mature, crumbly vintage cheddars.

SERVING TEMPERATURE:

Serve at 16–18°C. Given its incredible fruit density, oak power, and heavy extraction, decanting this wine for 2 hours before serving is essential.

The vintage will cellar gracefully for 10-20 years – the perfect gift or special occasion wine, it comes packed in its own individual gift box.
